Basic Concepts of 3D Animation

3D Animation

3D Animation is the process of generating 3D moving images in a digital environment. The procedure of creating 3D is sequentially categorized into 4 Basic Concepts of 3D Animation, and these are rendering, modeling, layout and animation and Texturing.

Modeling is the phrase that describes the procedure of generating 3D objects within a specific scene. Layout and animation phase describes the process followed for positioning and animating the objects within a specific scene. Texturing is the process of skin to practicing patterned paper to a plain white box. Lastly, rendering described the end result or output of completed computer graphics. The market is filled with software used for the creation of 3D Animation and these range from the high-end professional ones to the affordable low-end versions.

Below we described in detail about basic concepts of 3D animation:

4 Basic Concepts of 3D Animation

3D computer graphics are often referred to as 3D models. Apart from the rendered graphic, this model contains the graphical data file within. However, there are some differences. A 3D model is the mathematical representation of any 3D object. A model is not technically a graphic until it is displayed. Due to 3D printing, 3D models are not restricted to virtual space. A model can be displayed visually as a 2D image through a process called 3D rendering, or used in non-graphical computer simulations.

The Basic Concepts of 3D Animation can be divided into parts:

1. Modeling

Among the two most common sources of 3D models are those that an artist or engineer originates on the computer with some types of 3D modeling tool, and models scanned into a computer from real-world objects.

Basically, a 3D model is formed from points called vertices that define the shape and form of polygons. A polygon is an area created from at least three vertices. The overall integrity of the model and its suitability to use in animation depend on the structure of the polygons.

2. Layout and Animation

Before performing rendering into an image, objects must be placed in a scene. It defines spatial relationships between objects, including size and location. Animation refers to the temporal description of an object, i.e. how it moves and deforms over time. Popular methods include keyframing, motion capture and inverse kinematics. These techniques are used in combination. As with modeling, physical simulation also specifies motion.

3. Texturing

A map of texture is applied to the surface of a shape or polygon. Texturing is the process of skin to practicing patterned paper to a plain white box. Every vertex in a polygon is assigned a texture coordinated either via explicit assignment or by procedural definition. An Image sampling locations are then interpolated across the face of a polygon to produces a visual result that looks to have more richness than otherwise be achieved with a limited number of polygons.

4. Rendering

In the rendering process, it converts a model into an image either by simulating light transport to get photorealistic images or by using some style as in non-photorealistic rendering.

The basic operations in realistic rendering are scattering (how surface interact with light) and transport (how much light gets from one place to another). That step is performed using 3D computer graphic API. Altering the scene into a suitable form for rendering also involves 3D projection, which displays a 3D images in two dimensions.
